The Counselling Process

How do I begin?
  1. Please get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you. You can contact me by phone or via the online booking form to arrange a free 20 minute initial consultation telephone call. This is an opportunity for you to explain what you hope to achieve from counselling, ask any questions, & see whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you.
  2. If you feel we would be a good fit, then we will arrange a day & time for your first session.
What can I expect from our first session?

Our first contracted session is 60 minutes long and includes a thorough assessment. This session is all about getting to know each other, allowing us more time to discuss how we might work together. I’ll also explain more about the counselling process, including confidentiality, boundaries, & what you can expect.

You’ll have the space to share what’s bringing you to counselling & what you hope to achieve. I’ll ask questions about your life, relationships, & experiences, & together we’ll begin to understand your situation & identify areas we might focus on.

This session is also your chance to ask any questions you have & get a sense of whether counselling feels right for you & whether I am the right counsellor for you. There’s absolutely no pressure to continue if you feel we are not a good fit.

What can I expect from counselling sessions?

Following your initial assessment session, counselling sessions going forward are 50 minutes long. As your counsellor, I'll strive to understand & empathise with your feelings & experiences, helping you explore the difficulties you're facing. This process can lead to a deeper understanding & acceptance of yourself, easing pressures & empowering you to make positive changes.

I value & respect each individual, recognising that everyone's experiences, values, & needs are unique. There's no one-size-fits-all approach – it's about your journey, at your pace. You're the expert on your life, & I'm here to support you in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Our sessions are your space to explore whatever's on your mind, without judgment or expectation. We'll work together to understand your thoughts, feelings, & experiences, & identify patterns that may be holding you back.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Talk through challenges and concerns
  • Explore new perspectives and insights
  • Develop coping strategies & techniques
  • Work towards your personal goals


There's no right or wrong way to use our time together – just a supportive & confidential environment to help you grow and thrive.
